Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you’re working from a sketch, a sample piece or a conversation, our design team is here to help bring your ideas to life. At Colbar, design is a collaborative process. We guide you through each step to make sure your piece is ready for casting – technically, visually and creatively.

What file types do you accept for CAD?

We accept STL, 3DM and OBJ files. If you’re not sure whether your file is suitable, just send it through – we’re happy to check and advise. If you don’t have a CAD file yet, we can create one with you as part of our design service.

Can I just send a sketch or an existing piece?

Yes. We work with clients at all stages – from rough sketches to physical samples. If you don’t have a CAD file, we’ll help develop your idea into a production-ready model. We can also 3D scan an existing item if you’d like to recreate or adapt it.

What metals do you cast in?

We cast in: Sterling Silver, 9ct gold, 10ct gold, 14ct gold, 18ct gold, platinum, palladium, bronze, and brass. All our metals are ethically sourced and cast here in Ireland. If you’re unsure what to choose, we’ll help you find the best fit for your piece.

Do you have a minimum order quantity?

No. We’re happy to cast a single bespoke piece, a small test run, or a full production batch. We work with both new designers and established jewellers, and we scale to suit your needs.

How long does the casting process take?

Typical turnaround for casting is 5–10 working days, depending on the complexity of the job and our production schedule. If you’re working to a deadline, just let us know – we’ll always try to accommodate where we can.

Can I use my own master or mould?

Yes. If you’ve already created a master or have an existing rubber mould, we can work from that. We’ll review it first to make sure it’s suitable for casting and let you know if any adjustments are needed.

Can you help with finishing and polishing?

Yes. We offer finishing options including setting, polishing, plating and more. Let us know the finish you’re looking for and with our sister company Core Goldsmiths, we’ll quote accordingly.

Do you provide pricing upfront?

Always. Once we understand what you need – whether it’s design support, mould-making, or casting – we’ll give you a clear, itemised quote. No hidden extras, no unexpected costs.

Can I visit your workshop or speak to someone?

Of course. We’re based in Dublin and always happy to talk through your project. Whether you want to drop in, send files, or have a call, we’ll meet you where you’re at. You’ll always be dealing with a real person, not just an inbox.

Make Something, Together

We believe good casting starts with good communication. If you’ve got an idea in mind – whether it’s a single piece or a whole new line – get in touch and we’ll help you shape it into something beautiful.
